Altendorf Family with Port Washington Breakwater Lighthouse (1935); photo by helpful fellow travelers.

Geography has been a part of my life from a very early age. When I was in kindergarten I gave a lost bus driver directions on the way to the Milwaukee County Zoo from West Bend. I would draw my grandmother's customers maps during summers in my parents hometown of Port Washington, Wisconsin. I haven't permantely resided in southeastern wisconsin since 1st grade. Yet every with every Milwaukee Bucks, Green Bay Packers game, or summer trip back to Wisconsin, I continue to be inspired by the mighty waves of Lake Michigan.

After moving to Kentucky for High School at Boone County High School, I had many choices for university. I landed at the University of Kentucky and eventually learned I could make maps for a living. I have had many great map learning expriences under great professors like Boyd Shearer and Jeff Levy. These great professors along with the vision of Matt Wilson fueled my desire to continue in New Maps Plus. It was also during my undergrad at UK, I met my wife Sarah.

Kentucky American Water Christmas Lunch (2022)

I started my professional career under Shane New at the Bluegrass Area Development District. I then spent time in Bloomington, Indiana over the next five years in the fiber and oil industries. In 2018, I arrived back in Kentucky and worked for 2 years at Hardin County Water District No. 1, doing award winning work. In late 2019, I got the opportunity to move my young family back to the lexington area to be closer to family and friends. It has been a great to blessing to work at Kentucky American Water. I have benefited from amazing family insurance, tution reimbursement, and encouragement to keep deep involvement in the Lexington community.
